G. K. Chesterton
once wrote: "it is not natural or obvious to let
a man utter follies and abominations which you believe to
be bad for mankind any more than it is natural or obvious
to let a man dig up a part of the public road, or infect
half a town with typhoid fever." I have no idea
what all this gibberish really means but I will suggest
that he is conveying that it is wrong to say idiotic things.
We at the Football Huddle 3.0 respectfully disagree.
Since the humble beginnings
of the Football Huddle 1.0 we have strived to let everyone's
voice and opinion be heard regardless of merit. The Football
Huddle was the original brainchild of one 82 who's very
first post was dated Sept. 2nd, 2004. It was basically his
personal sports blog that many of us visited and commented
on. Some of the comments turned into great debates which
were extremely heated and opinionated. Version 1.0 quickly
ran into its problems as the blog style format did not facilitate
the type of conversation we had envisioned as a group. Blogs
are built on the idea of one person having the main voice
and others left to only comment. We wanted the focus to
be on our group. Enter JG with the idea of a message board
and the Football Huddle 2.0 was born in August of 2004.
Our discussions became more
heated and never before had the world seen such intense
and intelligent discourse. We were inspired and enthusiastic
and an end to the Football Huddle 2.0 seemed impossible.
April 2005 brought about such an end that none of us could
have imagined. A skilled hacker by the name of Evil Dead
caused the Football Huddle 2.0 to come to a screeching halt.
Being that the forum was hosted by another company for no
charge they controlled our database, this individual hacked
our message board and locked everyone out and erased all
our memorable discussions. We were crushed; it appeared
that the franchise that was the Football Huddle was over.
Enter Docgoku. With 82's purchase
of the domain: www.footballhuddle.net Doc began to set up
a database and forum entirely on a hosting account we now
own and The Football Huddle 3.0 was born. The 3.0 was assembled
with more security and a backup database that ensured that
the huddle, now more affectionately known as FH3, would
not see the same fate as version 2.0. Since the inception
of the FH3 we have seen substantial member growth and notoriety
in southern sports coverage. In October 2005 a front page
was created for the FH3 which contains general information
and links and stories written by the administrators and
charter members of the FH3. The creation of the front page
has only accelerated the growth and notoriety.
The FH3 has become more than
just a message board or web site. For the lack of a more
heterosexual term it has become a club. An organization
if you will that is centered on the love of sports, but
mainly Southern Football. In the last year we have seen
the establishment of the 'FH3's Annual Golf Tournament',
'Biggest Tailgate of Ever', 'Night Before Thanksgiving',
'Crimmas party; A Night to Forget', and others. We expect
to carry on these events as well as add many other events
going forward.
The FH3 is led by the administrators;
Doc, 82, Meal, and JG. We encourage all guest to join the
FH3 (it's free!) and begin posting and joining us in our
intriguing discussions. No opinion will ever be stifled
and no one will ever be refused membership. We believe in
the freedom of speech and encourage it by any and all means.
We look forward to having discussions with you and hopefully
see you at some of our functions.
